February 2025
After a number of weeks of changeable weather, the Club Foster Blue Bluewater Fishing Club February was finally held on Saturday 22nd February, a week later than originally scheduled.
As with the January outing, sea conditions were a little lumpy early on, but levelled out to comfortable glassy seas as the day matured.
Perhaps due to the date change for the competition outing, boat numbers were down with only 4 boats signing on. Fish catches were also light on, with 20 fish caught weighing a total of just over 17 kilos. However, for the low number of baits participating, the fish species caught had a fair degree of diversity. Bill and Simon Greene with new member Tim Heffernan in their ‘Bar Crusher beast’ fished the FAD resulting in some nice mahi mahi (dolphin fish), the best stretching the arms at 2.7 kilo. Tim Heffernan also got the best (though it has to be admitted, only) flathead of the day weighing in at a wafer under a kilo. Snapper gun Lindsay Rathbone snared not only the top snapper of the day but also the top fish, testing the scales at a cracking 2.76 kilo. That, with his other catches for the day resulted in Lindsay winning the months competition with 109.8 points. Club faithful Barry Wrench ran second with 101.2 points.
Very pleasing to have a new member take out one of the prize categories on their first outing! Well done Tim.
