May 2025

The Club Forster Bluewater Fishing Club monthly fishing competition held on 17th May saw a small number of boats and fishos hit the great ocean blue, as well as mixed results in the fishing catch.

4 boats carrying six members took part with a total of 47 fish caught at a total weight of 35.74 kilograms. (A 5th boat did venture out, but unfortunately a motor failure saw them unable to join the fray. Fortunately the breakdown occurred very close to base, and with much gratitude they received a tow-back from another local boat to return safely to the harbour. Bloomin’ boats!)

Gun fisho and long term member Martyn Barry won the day (should we say again?) with a total of 278.2 points, and a total of 15 fish, including a full bag of nice sized Flathead. Over the last few years, flathead have moved from a staple of club catches to being a little trickier to find.  To see Martyn with a respectable collection was encouraging for all. Martyn also brought home the best teraglin of the day at a little over 2 kilos. Dave Nash won the best snapper category of the competition with a 1.5kg snapper and Lindsay Rathbone was runner up in both the flathead and snapper categories.

Though as indicated earlier fishos were low in number, it was great to see Bryan Duffy back on the water after some months away travelling, and he was rewarded for his efforts with a number of nice pan size reddies.
