Nov 2025: Comp short but long!

The Club Foster Bluewater Fishing Clubs November outing was held on Saturday the 16th of November.  The weather forecast indicated that it could be a short day however, as winds were forecast to blow up from about mid morning.  On this occasion the forecasters were spot on and by 11AM most boats were back at the harbour due to a strong nor'easter that had blown up.

Overall, anglers found the fishing slow going with a relatively low number of fish caught. However what was lost in quantity, was made up for in quality.

A total of 6 boats entered into the monthly competition, with 10 anglers testing their skills and resulting in a total catch of 23 fish. Frank Harshman was amongst the best, lining in 6 fish for a total length of nearly 2.7 metres. This netted Frank the prizes for Longest Flathead, and Runner Up for both snapper and teraglin categories.   Barry Wrench and Matthew Judd both picked up a couple of flathead, with Barry winning Runner Up prize in the flathead category. But the overall winner again on the day was Martyn Barry, who despite not finding that the mahi mahi were at the Fad (Fish aggregating device) was able to pick up 8 flathead on the way home which at a total length of 3.4 metres, won him the day!

However, despite the slow going on the fishing front, a number of anglers we're fortunate enough to pick up some real horses! Job Bujalski won the Longest Snapper category with a personal best snapper of 880 millimetres. One fantastic fish, that made Joe smile so much that this author wondered if Joe had bleached his teeth or I had just so seen so many of them before!! Not to be outdone, Anthony flicker was successful at landing a 1165 millimetre long kingfish. This hoodlum will keep him in fish steaks till next year!  Huge congratulations to Joe and Anthony.

All fish that are caught are of DPI regulations as per club By-laws. Fish are either eaten by our members that catch them or given away to their friends and family. There is also a bag limit as to how many fish of each species can be caught. The club competitions also incorporate the option to practice catch and release.
