December 2025: New Record Set!
The most recent competition for the Club Forster Bluewater Fishing Club was held on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of December. The weekend saw excellent sea conditions offshore and resulted in the highest number of boats participating in the clubs history!
A record total of 10 boats signed on for the competition, with 16 anglers contributing. Very exciting for the club to have this level of involvement. However despite the number of boats and anglers, fish proved difficult to find, small in size with a definite tendency to play with their food! The fish seemed quite fastidious about what baits and lures they would take when they were located. In difficult fishing conditions, some notable results came from Anthony “mulloway whisperer” Flicker and his boat colleague Jimmy Smith who both landed mulloway just over 700 millimetres. Anthony took out the "Best Other” category with his mulloway going 770 millimetres.
John Habraken had a mixed day on the water, finding fishing frustrating and slow. He however ended up boating both the longest flathead (560mm) and teraglin (643mm) for the day. Emerging fishing power house Lex Court measured in a total of 16 fish, at a total of 6.45 metres resulting in a competition total of 331.38 points. This included a 540mm snapper winning him the best snapper for the outing. Unfortunately Lex was just pinged by proven and consistent fishing power house Martyn Barry, who despite catching the same number of fish as Lex (16) ended the day with more points (352.43) due to the total length of his catch measuring 7.3 metres. However outright winner for the competition outing was Dave Nash who ended up with 484.63 points resulting from a total of 23 fish measuring a sum of 9.79 metres.
The clubs next monthly competition is scheduled for the weekend of 17 and 18th January 2026.
All fish that are caught/and or released are according to DPI regulations as per club By-laws. Fish are either eaten by our members that catch them or given away to their friends and family. There is also a bag limit as to how many fish of each species can be caught. The club competitions also incorporate the option to practice catch and release.
